Buxton Carnival

We aim to parade puppets in the Buxton Carnival every year which takes place in mid-July as part of the Buxton Well Dressing Festival. We run community workshops in June to make puppets specifically for the carnival, often in conjunction with another project. We also used the parade to promote the Buxton Puppet Festival which took place later in month.

The group typically consists of the Funny Wonders team and their families, members of the public who have helped make the puppets, the Funny Wonders puppet club and youth group and random members of the crowd if we need more help to carry the gigante puppets!

Recent parades include gigante Olympic Torch parade puppets with a fire and water theme, puppets we made to put up around Buxton, the Pixar film ‘Up’, a human rollercoaster and a gigante flowerpot man! To see pictures from the parades see our project archive or click the pictures below.
