Below are details of the artistic training and development opportunities we offer.
Work Experience Placements
We are happy to offer work experience placements for local school pupils providing experience of working with a community organistion. The placements can be in a variety of roles including ‘self-employed artist’, events management, fund-raiser, website design and research and market research. Our capacity to offer placements depends on our projects at the time of the placement and suitable team members to work with.

Arts Award
Arts Award is an award scheme aimed at providing young people aged between 7 and 25 a framework for learning and sharing new skills, an opportunity to develop creativity and leadership skills and to link young people with creative arts professionals. It is a great way for children and young people to be inspired by and enjoy the arts: it builds confidence, helps young people to enjoy cultural activities, and prepares them for further education or employment. The scheme is creative, valuable and accessible: there are no entry requirements and no time limit for completing the award. Any form of art can be explored including performing arts, visual arts, literature, media and multimedia.
A number of practitioners on the Funny Wonders team are trained Arts Awards Advisors and can currently offer mentoring for the Bronze and Silver award schemes. Our area of expertise varies from puppetry, textiles, music and multimedia activities.

Professional Development Workshops
Subject to funding, we offer workshops for early-career artists, puppeteers and musicians to develop new skills and learn new styles or methods of performance.
Our last workshops formed part of our ‘Building Creative Futures’ project which aimed to produce a shadow puppet theatre show accompanied by live music or MiST – ‘music in shadow theatre’ – which could be taken into schools to create work and experience for those at the start of their career.
