Olympic Torch Relay 2012

Funny Wonders helped the Olympic Torch on its route through Buxton on Friday 29 June 2012.

With funding via High Peak Borough Council, we worked with four schools in the area to make gigante puppets which joined and followed the Torch on its journey through the town. The puppets had a ‘water’ and ‘fire’ theme in keeping with Buxton’s rich heritage as a spa town and the source of Buxton Mineral Water and the Olympic Flame.

The town was packed and we watched Bill Weston MBE, founder of the Billerettes bring the Torch through The Square and round towards the Crescent before joining the parade up to the market place. Students from each school came to parade the puppets they had made and bring a community feel to the event.
