Changing Faces 2024/2025

Our Changing Faces project has been running since 2017. It is a creative, after-school club for young people aged 11-18yrs in Buxton who face daily difficulties and disadvantage. We provide a range of creative activities, giving participants choice of what they want to do. Savoury snacks and fruit cordial are offered.

Workshops started on Tuesday 10 September 2024, running until Tuesday 17 December 2024, taking place at The Green Man Gallery until 5pm. This term, we created a shadow theatre film. The workshops were supported by a grant from Derbyshire County Council (Public Health Covid-19 Fund).

Workshops continue in 2025 but in a new venue, due to the closure of The Green Man Gallery from 23 December 2024. From Tuesday 14 January, workshops are being held at St Anne’s Community Centre on Hardwick Square West, so just round the corner. Workshops in the winter term are supported by a Derbyshire County Council Public Health Grant (Young People’s Emotional Wellbeing Grant).

Spaces are available.

Please get in touch if you would like more information, to refer a young person – email hello@funnywonders.org.uk.

We’re also looking for volunteers to join our delivery team. Find out more about joining us here.

Activities

During the autumn term, we worked towards creating a shadow puppetry film.

We had sessions on creative writing games, storyboarding, exploring light and shadows, poetry, design, drawing, shadow puppet making, projection design, sound effect-recording, voice recording, finishing with a few sessions of shadow performance and filming.
