Changing Faces in 2017
Happy New Year! 2017 is looking like it is going to be quite a year for Funny Wonders.
Firstly, we are extremely pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant by Children in Need from their Small Grants Programme to run a new and exciting project called ‘Changing Faces‘.
It will run during 2017 and involves creative, weekly and some weekend workshops for young people aged 11-18yrs in Buxton.

The project aims to: provide a respite from life’s difficulties in a supportive, safe environment where participants can have fun and make new friends which they may not do otherwise; develop creative and life skills and increase their self-confidence and self-esteem, enabling the participants to make decisions and feel more in control of their lives. We will be working with local schools and social services and hope to make a positive impact on the lives of everyone involved. We are recruiting creative practitioners and volunteers to get involved with the project. Please get in touch if you are interested in working with us.
A second new project, which we’ve called POPPIE (Production of Puppetry Performances in Education), is kindly funded by the University of Derby‘s Community Fund.
We will use the grant to develop ideas for new, income-generating, creative workshops for educational groups and expand our practitioner team.
This will help us to move towards becoming self-sustainable, securing our future and our work in the local community. It will also help us to increase our reach and profile in the region through a promotional campaign.

This spring, we’re also planning student work placements with Buxton and Leek College, an exhibition event at The Green Man Gallery celebrating the works of Doug and Chris Agnew with their family, Easter shadow puppetry workshops with Buxton Museum & Art Gallery and Arts Week school workshops! Busy busy busy. But more on those later.
We’re always looking for more people to get involved with the organisation. Practitioners, volunteers and people to join us at our monthly Board meetings to offer advice and support. Please get in touch if you’d like to give us some of your time. We have the opportunities, we just need more people!
