Another Great Sadness and a Future in Doubt

Another great sadness has befallen us at Funny Wonders – the passing of our other co-founder Doug Agnew. It’s hard to know what to write. Doug will be mightily missed for a whole heap of reasons, not least by us, as our Chairman of the Board, ideas-man, artist and designer. He joins his beloved Chris and our thoughts and hearts are with the whole, wonderful family. Funny Wonders was their creation, vision and vessel for their artistic talents over the past two decades and afforded them much laughter, purpose and many new friends. For that we are grateful.

Doug’s artwork continues to be exhibited at The Green Man Gallery in the newly re-named “Agnew Room” in dedication to both Chris and Doug for all their contributions to community arts in the High Peak and further afield. If you dare to try to understand the creative mind of Doug Agnew witnessing his marvels at the gallery is the place to start!

We are in the process of developing a page in memorial to Doug as we did for Chris. To do another so soon is heart-breaking. If you would like to contribute, please get in touch.

The team continue with our ongoing and upcoming projects for this summer. These include creating puppets for a production of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “Utopia”, Buxton Carnival, teaming up with the Buxton Town Team to make lots and lots of flowerpot people for Buxton in Bloom 2016, workshops at the Buxton Museum & Art Gallery and a project to run regular creative workshops.

Beyond the summer, however, for Funny Wonders to continue, we need more people to get involved with the organisation. Losing both Chris and Doug is a great loss to us, with them both being friends and family and the amazing people they were, but to the organisation, they were the drive and talent which made it what it is today. If anyone reading this likes the work we do, wants to get involved in a community arts group, has a love of puppetry, music, craft, design, or cares about Funny Wonders as an organisation, please please get in touch and find out how you can join us. There is lots of information in our ‘About Us‘ pages.

Better news to come next time I promise.

Much love.
