In August 2025, we received a grant from the Derbyshire Community Foundation Local Network Fund to set-up a new puppet club. A first workshop took place at a University of Derby Open Day on 11 November 2025 at the Devonshire Dome, Buxton. Over 20 people signed up as potential volunteers and 40 young people expressed an interest in joining the puppet club.
We then ran training sessions for our delivery team at the Devonshire Dome between November and December 2005 and the puppet club ran for 6 weeks on Saturday mornings at the Devonshire Dome from January 2026.
With most participants being children, we looked for a more child-friendly venue and, on 25 February 2006, we ran another open day at a new venue, St Anne’s Primary School, Buxton. Over 50 children, young people and adults attended this taster session. The Puppet Club then continued at St Anne’s Primary School to May 2006.
We later ran it as an after-school activity at the school from November 2006. Puppets were made for a performance of The Twelve Days of Christmas. In early 2007, the group worked towards a performance of a shadow play, The Big Red Apple, and an African choir shadow performance.
