A vale to volunteer Viv
We are heartbroken to hear of the death of Viv Marriott. Our thoughts are with her husband, Jim, and all the many groups she was involved with in Buxton. We will miss her dearly.
Viv is the reason we run the Buxton Flowerpot Trail project. She was helping the Buxton Town Team with their Buxton in Bloom project and asked us to run some making workshops in 2016 to support the ‘Best Flowerpot Person’ competition category. The following year, following more making workshops, she put together the first flowerpot trail and it went from strength to strength from there. Viv asked us if we would take on the project and, in 2019, Funny Wonders officially took it over.
In 2016, she also joined us in the Buxton Carnival when we paraded our human rollercoaster and, after becoming an official Funny Wonders volunteer, she helped to support our Changing Faces project from 2017 onwards.
In 2019, she became ever busier with leading walks, yoga training and with the Fringe, so we saw less of her but she remainined involved, helping when she could; even when undergoing her cancer treatment, she wanted to be kept in the loop.
Her positivity and energy brought so much to our activities, as did her creativity, despite her being adamant she wasn’t an “arty person”! Let it be known, she made many wonderful flowerpot people in her time.
