#ChangingFaces

Changing Faces 2022/2023

Our Changing Faces project has been running since 2017. It is a creative, after-school club for young people aged 11-18yrs in Buxton who face daily difficulties and disadvantage. We provide a range of creative activities, giving participants choice of what they want to do. Savoury snacks and fruit cordial are offered.

Workshops started on Tuesday 13 September 2022 and ran until Tuesday 11 July 2023, taking place at The Green Man Gallery until 5pm.

As part of the project, we also took part in the Buxton Carnival parade. See our activities for this here.

This year, the project was supported by a Derbyshire County Council Derbyshire Grant.

The project will continue in the next academic year. Please get in touch if you would like to refer a young person.

Please also get in touch if you would like to join our delivery team – email hello@funnywonders.org.uk. Volunteers and artist practitioners welcome!

Activities

During the autumn term, we tried functional origami and worked towards creating a shadow puppetry film which included sessions on creative writing games, storyboarding, exploring light and shadows, shadow puppet making, exploring sounds and instruments, voice and audio recording and shadow puppetry performance. We have also learnt about raising guide dog puppies, tried making pasta crazy golf courses, made mandalas, had mosaics workshops with a local artist, learnt calligraphy and tried painting with different tools. In the summer term, we tried stencil-making and spray painting and worked towards our Buxton Carnival entry which included sculpture, papier mache, painting, costume design and puppetry performance. See more about this on the project page here.
